My Favorite Food

I'm from Poland. In my country we have a lot of intresting dishes. My favorite dish are the Pierogi. In the Polish Kitchen Pierogi is a dish usually served during the week and on special occasions. One special occasion is Christmas, where we served them on Christmas Eve - this is our tradition.
In my home my mom always made Pierogi, and I often helped her, because making dumplings takes a lot of time and work. The Pierogi are made from unleavened dough traditionally stuffed with sauerkraut, ground meat, mashrooms and potato with cheese - populary called "Pierogi Ruskie".
The gough which is made simply by mixing flour and warm water, is rolled flat and then cut into circles using a cup. The filling is placed in the middle and the dough folder over to form a haf circle and kneaded their edgnes.
The Pierogi are boiled until they float, drained, and sometimes fried or baked in butter before serving. They can be served with sour cream or garnished with small pieces of fried bacon and onions. As dessert, varieties with fruit filling or sweet cheese may be topped with sour cream and sprinkled with sugar. These sweet Pierogi are very popular for children and are simply delicious - YUMMY. These are my favorite Pierogi. I really like to eat them, but I don't like to make them.

  1. They sound delicious, Maria. I have had them a few times when students bring them to our parties. I would like to try them with the sweet cheese filling sometime. Do they serve Pierogi in your aunt's restaurant?
